How to Get a Pre-Shot Routine That Will LOWER Your Handicap NOW

What do all the pros have in common? They trust their golf swing!

How do they do it? Well, having a consistent pre-shot routine allows the mind to focus on things like the target or the visualization of your shot not outside influences such as the wind, pressure, the water on the right or the woods on the left.

Here's how to get a pre-shot routine that will put you in the same mind-set as the pros:

Do whatever works best for you: everyone's pre-shot routine will be different. And that is a good thing. Your routine should put you in a positive frame of mind, hitting the ball with confidence.

An essential component of every pre-shot routine is picking an intermediate target 6 to 12 inches in front of your ball (such as a divot or piece of grass) so that your clubface will be aligned. This will allow you aim much better than using a target 1000 yards away in the distance.

Involve a practice swing. It can be at exactly the same tempo as you want to hit the upcoming shot; it can be a half swing, or whatever length you want. The point is that you are trying to replicate a feeling that will help you visualize the actual shot.

Practice, Practice, Practice make sure that you establish your pre-shot routine at the driving range before you implement it on the golf course. Then do it every shot for one round and it will start to become engrained in your subconscious.

My Pre-Shot Routine:

To take one practice swing go behind my ball and picture the shot landing where I want it to (in the fairway or beside the pin).

As I move to address the ball, I keep looking at the target (this focuses you on the execution of the shot, not the mechanics of your swing) then I address the ball with my feet together and take my grip (while the club is in the air).

After I have my grip, I look back at the target and widen my feet into the stance (this is one of the best tips I have ever gotten it helps you immensely with your aim). I then do a Mike Weir waggle one last look at the target and bam, down the middle.

Note: If you are ever playing a competitive match (whether in a tournament or against a friend), mastering the pre-shot routine will allow to deal with the pressure better. Trust me it works!
