How to Grow Your List By Turning Potential Subscribers Away
How to Grow Your List By Turning Potential Subscribers Away
As an internet marketer you may already have great products or services to offer so now you want to grow your list so you can tell potential customers how good they are.
After all the larger your list, the more chances you have of making the most sales from this database right?
Well the above statement is correct up to a point but you may be better off actually keeping some people off your list while allowing others in.You see the very best list you could possibly have is one which is full of highly-targeted individuals in your niche with cash to spend on your products. The key words here are highly targeted' because a small list of the right buyers will outperform a large list of the wrong buyers every time.
In other words you ideally want only those people are interested in buying goods and services from your niche to opt in to your list and the rest to stay away. For example if your niche is about dog grooming then having 1,000 cat lovers and 200 rabbit owners on your list won't really do you much good. In fact it will only make you wonder where you are going wrong as no matter what offer you send out you will not get an encouraging response rate. A smaller, more targeted, list of only 400 dog lovers is likely to produce far better results which is why it is as important to keep the wrong people away as it is to welcome the right people in.
First of all you want to look at the opt-in form you use on your website or squeeze page to get people to sign up to your list. The opt-in form is that box where people are asked to leave their name and email address and if you don't already have one then you should get one.
The form is one of the main elements in getting the right people to sign up. Don't make your form too general or you get the wrong people opting in. For example: "Sign up here" does not make it obvious what people are signing up for but: "Dog owners, sign up here for my weekly dog grooming tips" leaves people in no doubt what they are getting.
Ensure that your homepage, graphics, pictures, logo, headers and text all work together to show that your site is all about dog grooming. You don't even really want dog breeders to sign up for your list as you are really only targeting those interested in dog grooming and dog grooming products.
Of course the dog breeding fans would be much better than the 200 rabbit owners but nowhere near as good as the same number of people who are interested in dog grooming products.
When it comes to lists then "short and targeted" wins over "large and scattered" every time and as an internet marketer you owe it to yourself to keep the wrong people away just as much as you need to attract the right people in.
