How to Have An Organized Cubicle
When sitting down at your cubicle it feels like you work at a paper warehouse or a garbage dump, a little organization may be in order. By implementing your own system and sticking to it, you can be as organized as the person you think has it all together.
Smaller spaces like the office cubicle have their own unique organizational challenges. In fact, more than 59% of Americans say their messy cubicles affect their work. Try these tips to maximize your small space.
1.Use vertical space. Think Vertically. Don't rely solely on horizontal (flat) desk surfaces for storage. Office supply stores and catalogs offer a variety of organization products to maximize wall space. Look for basket ladders that hook over cube walls to act as "in" and "out" boxes or to hold current projects or literature.
2.Minimize visual clutter. Smaller spaces look larger when clutter is kept to a minimum. Keep project papers tucked away in file folders. Utilize storage boxes in a variety of sizes to store media and office supplies. If you have a bulletin board, empty it completely and return only those things that you truly love or need.
3.Minimize Distractions. If possible, face your computer or most-used work surface away from the doorway so you're not constantly interrupted by the flow of office traffic. Consider putting up a "do not disturb" sign outside your doorway letting office mates know when you need privacy during peak production hours. You can also brighten your darken cubicle with fun colorful frames or pictures. You can liven up your space without going overboard. Pick out your favorite themes such beach, nightlife or outdoors.
4. Put your supplies where they belong in the cubicle, and then start putting things from your "keep" pile into their new homes.
5. Invest in some organization supplies. Your individual needs will vary depending on your job and organizational style, but you probably will want plastic trays to use as inboxes and outboxes, hanging folders and file folders for your desk drawers, tabs to label the folders and pen holders and drawer dividers for pens, paper clips, rubber bands and other small supplies.
Try something new and if it doesn't feel right, try something different. Just keep working with it until it works for you. Find your own style and work with it. I'm always in a mood for a change, even if it's a little change. Even a little change can make a big difference in your environment.
