Chances are if you're in a band then you will be looking to increase your fan base. How do you do this? Well, you can take several different routes but the most obvious one is to use the Internet.

1. Get your act straight. Make sure everything about your band is sorted. Right people, right look, right sound and BRILLIANT material. If it's not brilliant then you're not good enough.

6. Make sure you have a sign up box on your website so you can collect email addresses from casual browsers and turn them into fans.
7. Build a quality profile, and interact with your fans at MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr. Add other sites if you so wish, but these are essential.
8. Shoot LOADS of video of your band doing stuff - writing, rehearsing, gigging, in the van - goofing off. Post these videos in all your social networks and then send emails to your list at least once a week telling them that new videos are up.
9. Post on Twitter and Facebook all the time. Not inane stuff but things that your fans will want to know.
10. Keep writing. Write much more than you record and rehearse as much as you write.
11. Play live. Anywhere for anyone.
12. Be tired. If you're working a full time job and you're doing enough to succeed, you are going to be exhausted. The people who can keep going when they are exhausted will win.
One last thing. This is not 'selling out'. This is 'selling'. It gives you a chance.
