How to Pick SEO Words to Use on Your Website
As the years since its inception grows, so does the internet's popularity
. More and more people, young and old, log on to this invention every day. From meeting people with the same interests to buying the season's hottest outfits, anyone can find what they want simply by clicking on links. It would not be hard to believe, therefore, that some humans would use this to their advantage. Sometimes this is done through the use of SEO, or search engine optimization. But how can a website owner hope to use this for themselves? How can they pick the right words and phrases that will help them specifically?
1. The first thing you need to do is think about what your website specializes in. In other words, what is your website about? Do you talk about the history of model airplanes? Do you share recipes from your grandmother's old cookbook? Do you sell something? Once you have decided on this, it is important to then make a list of words and phrases that would coincide with this theme. It does not matter if these words are written on the computer or on a piece of paper; the outcome is the same.
2. Now that you have a list, you should then narrow it down into something more manageable. Think about what you have written, and then conclude which of these words and phrases you think people would use. What are people more likely to type into the search engine box? What phrase would they be the least likely to use? You do not have to figure this out alone. Ask friends, family members, co-workers, and so on what they would do. If there is something wrong they will be able to bring it to your attention. Do not take offense to criticism; they are only trying to help you.
3. Finally, study the competition. Sites that enjoy a great deal of popularity are bound to have used at least some SEO; use this to your advantage. Find out what they have used, which you can then apply to your site. You can do this by inspecting their source code, which you can do by right clicking on a blank part of the website, then choosing the "View Source" option on the menu that appears. Remember, do not simply steal their words; work on your own and add them in for your site, as well.
Search engine optimization is greatly helpful to those who wish to bring their websites to the attention of others. Not only can you bring up the ranking of your site so that is shows up better during searches, but you can cause more people to discover it and want to look around. Try not to overdo the SEO, however. If it is too obvious that you are using it, some people will be turned off and not want to visit again. Be clever and find ways to use it without being obnoxious. It may not come to you right away, but with experience and practice it will become easier.
