To start your party off right, find an invitation that matches with your theme. Your guests will be ready to groove when they receive fun music and dance-themed invitations! Set the theme by clearing out a section of the living room for a stage. Hang colored string lights, disco balls, and a spotlight. When it's time to start the karaoke, have a variety of musical styles on hand to suit all tastes. Many party and music stores offer karaoke CDs of everything from modern hits to oldies, so mix up your musical selection to keep it fun! While one guest is singing, other guests could provide backup singing or even dancing if they want to. You can give prizes for best singer, dancer, best duet, most enthusiastic, craziest, best dressed, and best impersonation. Guests can pick songs that they would like to sing, or add a bit of suspense by having them draw song selections from a hat. Of course, you'll need a karaoke machine to do any singing in the first place, and these can also be found for rent at local party and music stores.

For an activity break, you can play Music Trivia by playing clips from a mix of popular and not-so-well-known songs. The first guest to correctly identify the song and/or the artist wins a point, and the player with the most points at the end can win a cool prize such as a music CD or poster. The popular video game RockBand also allows guests to karaoke with musical instruments and pretend they're playing in a real live band.

For party favors that will have your guests singing all the way home, include current music CDs or create your own music mixes. You could also include a gift certificate to a local music store or some posters of guests' favorite music groups.
