How to Reinstall the Video Driver after Installing Windows 7
Many Vista users have upgraded their computer to Windows 7 and now need to reinstall the video driver. Upgrading was actually encouraged by Microsoft. For a while, they ran a promotion where buying certain computers with Vista made the people eligible for a free Upgrade to 7 when the time came around. People did and now they need to update drivers.
Why do I need to update my drivers?
While you would think Windows 7 would have all the latest drivers, this is just not true. Windows cannot possibly have all the drivers needed to run every single device out there. If they did, it would take up massive amounts of precious hard drive space and it would take hours upon hours to install. Therefore, finding the most up to date drivers is left squarely to you.
How to Reinstall Video Drivers
First, make sure your video card is securely plugged into your system. Hopefully, you have not uninstalled your video driver yet.
Download the new video card driver.
a.From the manufacturer's website, click download drivers
b.Select which driver you need and click download
Uninstall the old Driver
a.Start -> Control Panel
b.Click Uninstall Program
c.Click the chipset you wish to remove
d.Click Remove
e.A pop up will ask you to confirm uninstall
f.You may be asked to restart your computer.
Install the new Driver
a.After the computer boots up, double click the video driver file you downloaded earlier
b.At this point, onscreen instructions will tell you how to finish installing the video drivers.
If you have already uninstalled the video driver, you may be able to follow the steps 1 and 3. However, it is not recommended. Additionally, your video card may not work properly while you are searching for the new driver.
If this is indeed the case, download the new driver to a USB drive. You will need to access the manufacturer's website from another computer. Instead of downloading the driver to the desktop, download it to the USB drive. When you attempt to reinstall the driver, plug the USB drive into the computer. Then open up the USB drive and double click the new driver.
Quick and Easy Way to Reinstall the Video Driver
For those of us who think this is way too much work and takes way too long, there is a simpler way available. When you use driver update software, it does all the work for you. It searches for the updated drivers. It finds the right download. It even installs it for you. All you have to do is click three buttons.
Click the Scan button to start scan
Click the Download button to download all the drivers it found
Click the Install button to install any driver you wish to update
The whole process takes less than two minutes and your computer will have the latest drivers and be running like new.
