Are you new to golf and you want to know how to swing a golf club
? Maybe you are not so new and you still want some advice on how to swing correctly. There are many different things that go into the golf swing and there are many different opinions and styles that work. Here are some basic principles that you need to know when it comes to swinging the golf club.
First, your grip is what connects you to the club and there are two types of grips that are preferred. The first grip is called the overlap, which is basically a grip that has your top hand's index finger over the top of your bottom hand in between the pinky and the ring finger. This is the overlap part. The other very good and popular grip is the interlock, which is basically the same except your top index finger actually locks together with your bottom pinky finger.
Second, your setup is what gives you the base for your swing. When you swing a golf club your power comes from creating a lot of upper body torque. This is done by having a good lower body foundation and creating a lot of upper body rotation. You need to have your feet a little wider than your shoulder with your driver and woods and more at shoulder width when you get down to your mid irons and shorter clubs. Your front foot should be flared forward some and your back foot should be flared back a little bit.
This will give you a good base to get the hip rotation you need to work up the power with the upper body torque. This will also allow you to have plenty of room to freely swing the golf club.
Last, where you aim makes a huge difference in how to swing a golf club. You should be aiming with your feet and shoulders, but the shoulders will always control where the club and the ball go. Make sure the shoulders are parallel left (for a right handed golfer) to your target. Not directly at your target because that would have you swinging to the right of your target and you will never hit what you are aiming at. This is the basic start to the golf swing and the next steps are much more in depth, but this is where 90% of golf swing problems are found so perfect this first.
