When you are adding a domain name to a Windows 2000 server, then you need to follow these steps.

Firstly, you need to create a anonymous user for the web. For this you first log in the server and then right click on the button "My Computer". Then from the drop down menu choose the option "Manage". In the expanded console you should go to "Local > Local Users and Groups > Users". On the tab "User" right click on the button "New User" and there enter a user name and a password. Click on the button "Create" and then close the console.

In the next step you need to provide folder permissions and for that you need to go through these steps. In the beginning you need to right click on the folder "Properties" and there you need to click on the button "Security Tab". Then click on the "Add" button. Now you need to select the user name that you have created and then click on "Add" and the "OK" buttons. The permissions that you need to give are "Read & Execute", "Read" and "List Folder Contents". Then click on "Apply" and "OK" buttons.

Next, you need to add the domain in the server and for that you are required to open the console of the server and then right click on the button "Local" and then select your server name and then select New and Web Site and Next. Then enter the description of the domain name and then click on "Next". Then enter the IP address that is necessary for using the website. If it is dedicated IP then leave the name of the host header and if it is not then enter the following www.domain.com. In the Path folder give the path of your web folder. Check the box "Allow Anonymous Access to this web site" and then click on "Next". Then allow the following permissions "Read" & "Run Scripts" and click on "Next". Then you need to click on "Finish" button.

Now you need to find the domain that you just added in the server console and then right click on the domain and then select "Properties". From there choose "Directory Security". Go to "Edit" under "Anonymous Access & Security Control" check "Anonymous Access" and then click on "Edit". Under "Anonymous User" choose "User Name" and give the name of the server that you have created. Then check the box beside "Allow IIS to control password" and the click on "OK". Also under "Authenticated Access" check the box "Integrated Windows Authentication".
