How to chose the right fur for you (Part 1 of 3)
Do you have a type of fur in mind already? If so
, great. Otherwise, read our Fur Olympics postthat will give yousome information about types of fur and their qualities.
How often will your wear it? Mink, raccoon, beaver and lamb is very durable. Meanwhile, the less durable furs include rabbit and chinchilla.
Goingfor the slim look?Fox and coyote furs are very nice, but the extra long hairs may give you the look of extra weight. If you are looking for a slim look, sheared beaver, mink, among other short haired furs will work better.
Are you making a lifetime purchase or for a few years? Fox has a characteristic of losing hairs over time along with discoloration that follows. Also, chinchilla, known as the softest fur, starts to lose its hairs and luster and is a victim to discoloration as well.
Length of your coat? The lengthy coat has an exceptional look. But these lengthy furs have more probability of collecting dirt and wearing out near the bottom. Youmay save yourself dollars on cleaning and dollars on headache pills by buying a shorter coat. Today's short furs look great with jeans and ball gowns alike.
Are you allergic to dogs? If so, you should not buy any fox furs nor coats with fox collars. The fox is in the canine family and there is a good chance you will have an allergic reaction to fox fur as well.
Do you have allergies to other animals? If so, mink is a great choice. This is a short haired fur that does not shed and works out well for people with allergies to animals.
What color lining do you prefer? If you are like most people, you say- white, bright and flashy! But consider this: We all know that fur needs to be cleaned at least twice a year to maintain its new condition, look and smell. However, in the process, the lining may never be cleaned while it is still attached to the fur. The furrier will refresh the lining but the stains and spots will stay. So if you have dark lining you will be able to easier conceal these stains. Consequently, dark lining may be a better choice if you are buying a fur for everyday wear. Every once in a while you will have to request that your furrier takes off the lining so that you may dry clean it and sow it back on, fresh and clean.
What color fur do you prefer? A similar principle applies here as well. If you plan to wear your fur once a yearthen white will be a great choice. However, the more you wear it between cleanings, the more you should consider choosing a darker color.
I would like to point out that for that must have moment, you may choose a light color fur if you accompany it with
Lana's Fur Cleaning Kit. As a fur home cleaning kit, this product will allow you to recapture that new look at a moment's notice.
