How to develop good habits that can make you successful - Applying The Slight Edge

What a shock! Ok, we read the book called The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson. The book made sense. There was very little that I disagreed with. The challenge was putting it into practice. As the title suggests, its about The Slight Edge. Its about the doing the right thins, the small right things. But more importantly, its about doing them over a sustained period in a consistent manner. Slow and steady wins the race. (And more importantly steady) So I thought This is exactly how I need to coach my clients in the age of economic turmoil and uncertainly. People crave certainty and security. As do business owners. I started to discuss the Slight Edge with my clients and I explained how we would face the challenges of the year ahead. At the same time, I also had to apply the same principles to how I live my life, how I run my business. I had to identify the habits that needed to be broken and identify the habits that needed to be created. Why did I not do all this when I was considering a change of career? Why did I not know this when I was considering starting a new business? The Slight Edge applies to every part of my coaching business, from my marketing, the management of my team, my relationship with my clients, my relationships with my fellow franchisees, my relationships with my prospects. The Slight Edge applies when I ask what value did I bring to the business community today and what value did I bring to the franchise community today? The Slight Edge applies to the relationships that I have with my family. Did I have time to read the bed time story to the children or did I busy myself on the computer? Did I have time to spend 5 minutes talking to my father about his day? It would not have mattered today if I had not done these things, but it would have mattered. It would have compounded over time. Applying the Slight Edge to my own life, to the business that I run, to the relationships that I have is easy. Its not simple. It requires me to change focus. It requires me to have discipline. It challenges me to remain focussed on the bigger goals in life. The biggest challenge for any person or business owner wanting to apply the slight edge principles is the lure of instant gratification. Thats also the biggest challenge for the person considering a career change or considering starting a new business. It takes time and work to succeed. Are you prepared to make the sacrifices?About the Author:
