How to do a Macbook Hard Drive Replacement

, there might be a day when you want to replace the factory your hard drive. It doesn't take a computer expert or a certified technician to replace the hard drive in the Macbook computer. All you really need to know is how to use a standard screwdriver you can open up your Macbook's case to remove the old hard drive and replace it with a new one.

First, you need to back up all of your data that you want to keep from the Macbook computer to an external storage device. Then, shut down the Macbook computer and unplug all of the cables that are attached.

Put the Macbook computer on a flat work surface and then touch the metal ports on the back of the case in order to release any static electricity that you might have in your hands. Pull the access panel down until it lies out flat after releasing the plastic handle on the side of the computer's case.

Find the Macbook computer's current hard drive on the left side of the open case. Unplug the ribbon cable and the power cable from the back end of the hard drive.


Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the attachment screw which holds the carrier for the hard drive to the Macbook computer's case. Slide it out of the Macbook computer by tilting the drive carrier upwards.

Next, remove the 4 screws on the sides of the metal carrier which holds the hard drive in place and then pull the hard drive out of the carrier.

Then, insert the new hard drive into the carrier and replace the 4 screws and push the hard drive carrier back into the Macbook computer's case and replace the attachment screw.

Next, connect the ribbon cable and the power cable to the ports that are located on the back end of the new hard drive. Then lift up on the side access panel, push it back into place, and reconnect the Macbook computer's cables.

Turn the Macbook computer on and insert the operating system installation disc. Lastly, follow the installation instructions that are on the screen.

That's all there is to replacing the hard drive on a Macbook computer, You just saved yourself a considerable amount of money by not having an authorized Macbook computer repair shop replace the hard drive for you.
