How to get easy but useful Tricks to Speed Up Windows
?
How to speed up Windows? It seems this is the age-old question. Ever since Windows 95 came out, people were wanting it to load faster and run faster. Compared to the old Windows, computers run pretty fast. However, we are now used to speedy start ups and quick loads. Therefore, when the computer starts slowing down, we want to know what we can do to fix it.
#1 Do You Need More Memory?
If your PC is running with less than 512 MB of RAM, then the answer is a resounding YES! Memory is cheap and easy to install. You can go to your local computer store and pick some up for around $20 (more if you want more memory.)
To Check Your Memory:
Press and hold the flag looking button near your spacebar
While holding that down, press the PAUSE BREAK button above the numbers
A window will open and at the bottom it will say how much RAM you have
#2 Disable File Indexing
Indexing takes information from all your documents and helps you do a searchable keyword index. This takes up a lot of time and lots of memory. Very few people actually need this feature and if you do, Windows can still do it. It just takes longer to do.
To disable this feature:
Click Start -> My Computer
Right Click C: drive
Select Properties
Uncheck the "Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching"
Apply the changes to subfolders and files. Click OK
If you get an error message, click Ignore All
#3 Run Disk Cleanup Monthly
Disk cleanup will get rid of a bunch of old files and trash you no longer need. As you can imagine, this just weighs down your computer and takes up valuable memory.
To run Disk Cleanup:
Click Start -> My Computer
Right Click C: drive
Select Properties
Under General Tab - Click Disk Cleanup
#4 Run a Spyware Check
Spyware gets on your computer just from browsing the Internet. The more you browse, the more spyware you will get on your computer. You should run a good anti-spyware program on a weekly basis to get rid of these nasty computer-slowing programs.
In addition to being annoying, spyware can also be dangerous. If left unchecked, spyware can steal your passwords, take screenshots, and even take over your computer. Therefore, it is worth the small investment to get good spyware protection.
#5 Clean Your Registry
Enough cannot be said about the importance of a clean registry. Nothing will slow down a computer more than a junky registry. Redundant, missing and corrupted files just take up space and slow down the computer. Like spyware, registry errors just happen from running the computer. In fact, spyware is often the culprit of registry errors.
A registry cleaner can fix and speed up your computer in less than two minutes. Therefore, it is highly recommended to spend a little cash to keep your computer running at its best
