In my opinion writing great articles for your site is the best way to build backlinks because all you have to do is spend an hour each day creating two really good articles and other website owners will do the rest.

Now for the final method to increase your reputation it comes down to traffic. The reason traffic is a factor is because the search engines are smart enough to tell which sites are getting traffic and those are usually the ones that they push high in the search results. Traffic is one method that can tell people a lot about your site, if you get return visitors then it is most likely because they got some good information out of your site and want to read more.
