How to use the Power of Your Mind to Stop Smoking Forever
You can truly achieve anything if you set your mind to it
. Our minds have extraordinary abilities. We can explore these abilities by taking time everyday to focus on specific goals that we would like to achieve. Our mind needs direction in order for it to work for us. If we do not provide this direction, we will merely absorb the directions given to us by friends, family, peers, advertisements, and external stimuli that we hear and see everyday- through television, the internet, and print media. This is how most people pick up smoking in the first place. Our mind is a garden, and we should only plant the seeds that we want to cultivate- the goals that we want to achieve. We water and fertilize the soil by only thinking the thoughts that will nurture and cultivate our garden. Now that we understand how the mind works, we can begin to plant the seeds for change.1. The first step is to physically write down your goal of kicking the smoking habit. On a sheet of paper, write "I have the self-discipline and self-control to completely stop smoking." Find a "No Smoking" picture and paste it next to your goal. Make several copies of your goal.2. Place a copy by your bed, one in your car, one at your desk at work, and even as a picture on your mobile phone.3. Visualize your goal at least three times a day. Before you go to bed, before you get up in the morning, and once midday, you need to look at your goal and meditate on it. This means actually closing your eyes, slowing your breathing and getting into a completely relaxed state. Visualize telling your best friend, mother, father, sister, brother, wife, husband, or cousin that you quit smoking. In your mind, see how proud they are of you. Visualize their response to your great news! What do they say to you? What are you wearing? How happy do you feel? The more vividly you can picture the new you, the better your results will be. The principle here is to advertise your goal to yourself enough times to make you want it so bad that it will become a reality. Repeat your written goal with conviction in your mind and aloud.4. Repeat this daily for two months. Change does not come immediately, it only comes over time through patience and persistence. After the first two months, you should review your goal weekly as a reminder of your new habit of not smoking. When practicing your visualization process, it is absolutely crucial that you truly believe that your efforts will lead to the realization of your goal. After a while, you will begin to feel guilty for lighting up that cigarette. Your cravings will begin to subside and eventually you will be completely free of your nicotine habit- solely through your desire to change. The first two weeks are difficult, however if you keep up your daily visualizations, you will make it through successfully. Do not underestimate the power of your own mind. The day will come when you actually tell your brother, sister, or friend that you finally quit! When will you begin your journey to change? There is no better time than today!
