Hunter Wellies Are the Prefect Shoes for Almost Any Season

The famous Wellington boots that are now such a huge fashion statement in the country of England and are almost a part of the rural uniform, were actually invented in the country of France, but it was a British company called Hunter that made Wellingtons popular and made them the iconic fashion statement that they are today. Wellingtons or Wellies as they are lovingly called today by all the Britishers that wear them are also called Hunter Wellingtons or indeed Hunter Wellies. Even if they are not the originals made by the Hunter company, the two brands are tied together in the minds of the Britishers today.

The history of the origin of the Wellington or the Wellie is quite interesting as it was first invented more than a century ago at the tail end of the nineteenth century when a new process of treating rubber called Vulcanisation was first invented. The process of vulcanising rubber was applied to shoes by a French man after he bought the right to the process from the inventor and vulcanisation resulted in a tough and hard wearing boot that was perfect for trudging through mud and snow and that looked good as well.

The Wellington really hit the big time a few years later when the British Hunter company brought the rights to manufacture the shoes and started mass producing them for the British infantry to wear into war. This created literally hundreds of thousands of Wellingtons and soon after the war, the civilians discovered that the Wellingtons were the perfect shoes for trudging through the British country side and for keeping one's feet comfortable and dry in the miserable and rainy British weather.

The traditional Wellingtons and in particular the signature Hunter Wellies became a fashion statement for the first time in the late nineteen eighties when a number of the more fashionable members of the British royal family were spotted at the Glastonbury music festivals trudging through the mud in them and the commoners soon went out and bought these tough and good looking shoes in droves. The craze for Wellingtons ended at the end of the eighties but now in the new millennium, Wellies are once again the hottest thing in the world of fashion footwear as a whole new generation of music lovers as well as fashion lovers discovers this practical and stylish type of footwear once again.
