I-595 Closures Will Make Travel To And From Port Everglades Difficult, But May Reduce Accidents

Port Everglades residents are well aware of the fact that when they get on I-595, they are often taking their life in their own hands. The flyover will be jacked up off of its foundation so that it can be extended and connected to the new lanes that will ease traffic in the area and hopefully reduce the astronomical number of Port Everglades accidents that have been occurring there.

Officials anticipate that the complete closure of the Interstate will occur over a weekend, but it will still have a huge affect on Port Everglades and the surrounding areas since it is the main thoroughfare for motorists traveling to and from the airport, to and from Port Everglades, as well as those trying to get to Sawgrass Mills and the IKEA outlet. Officials hope that the entire I-595 project will be complete by March 2014, perhaps sooner if the weather cooperates.
