I Loathe Football - Here Is A Dating Tip On How To Make A Sacrifice And Get A Benefit From It

Anyone who knows me will tell you flat out, I hate sports

. I hate football, I hate baseball, and I really don't care too much for any other sport out there. It's not that I am not athletic. I just don't see the point of sitting and yelling at a TV. Well that all changed today. Now I won't say that in one day I have changed my entire negative feeling about sports. What I will say is that today I learned a very valuable lesson about love and about life. I learned that making sacrifices for the one you love can turn out to be beneficial to you. I learned that just because I hated sports yesterday (all my life) doesn't mean I will always hate sports. I learned that when you open your heart to another person and try to enjoy the things they enjoy you can often find new interests of your own.

Today Georgia Tech vs. Virginia, my girlfriend's family all went to Georgia Tech so as you can imagine I was pulling for the home team. In reality I knew nothing about either team or really the game itself. In my time here on earth I have only seen 1 or 2 games from beginning to end. Both times it was a painful experience for me. Today I went because this is something my girlfriend is interested in. Within the first thirty minutes I caught myself several times jumping up and cheering for Tech. This was very odd for me. By the end of the game I realized that I was very excited, I realized that even though this has started out as a sacrifice for her, it had turned into something fun for me too.

Sometimes we think that things will always be how they have always been. This is a problem with us humans. We never think the bad and good will swap places but they often do. Where we are wrong is that life is all about changes. The only thing we are guaranteed in life is "death and taxes..." I would add we are also guaranteed that life will be full of change. After 34 years of loathing football season, today I went to a game and actually enjoyed it. This isn't about football, the epiphany here is that we shouldn't allow ourselves to fall into the trap of believing things won't change.

Today I must say I have learned a 3rd valuable lesson. Your interests and those of the person you love can very often become intertwined. I love my girlfriend. I love her family. Their team became my team without me knowing a single players name. I became endeared to the players through their love of them. Before I knew it I was cheering for Tech and booing Virginia. This is a great thing to really understand because when you understand that the person you love has interests that are different from yours, you may find (accidentally like I did) that you love these things too. If you do its like a little gift has been given to you. I now have another fun hobby.

Life is funny in its twists and turns sometimes. We never know what another day will bring. I knew that I would enjoy the tailgate party today, because I love to eat. I figured the entire time the game was going on I would be sitting there hoping for it to end. Instead my interests and my girlfriend's kind of became one. That is very cool I think. When you make sacrifices you may get benefits back. Life is full of changes. Watch out because you may find yourself loving something you once hated because your partner loves it, funny how that works out. There is no end to the great stuff that can happen to you when you really open your heart in a relationship.
