ISEE Prep - Easy Ways To Reduce Test-Taking Anxiety And Achieve a Better Score

Like many important tests, the ISEE, or Independent School Entrance Exam

, creates anxiety in both students and their parents. This timed exam, a combination of multiple choice and essay questions, is used by private schools to help determine whether or not a student should be admitted. Today's private schools are very competitive, and it is important that your student do as well as they can on the test. ISEE prep is essential to help increase your child's score.

The first step is becoming familiar with what is on the test. The test includes five sections. Three of these are verbal and reading: verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and reading comprehension. The fourth section is mathematics comprehension, and the fifth is an essay. While the essay is not scored or graded, it is forwarded on to the private school and considered part of the application process.

The Educational Records Bureau (ERB) provides practice questions for each section. In addition, they also provide practice tests that can be taken online. Having your student take the practice exam is a good start on initially preparing for the ISEE. In addition to becoming familiar with the types of questions being asked, your child will also have practice answering the questions in a timed fashion, similar to when they take the actual exam.

Once the practice is completed, it is important that you review the results with your child. This will give you both an opportunity to see strengths and weaknesses. For example, perhaps your child is strong in math that needs more practice with the reading comprehension part. It's much easier to determine what to focus on when you can see clearly which areas need more focus.

Now that you have a better idea of what your child needs to work on, it's time to prepare additional test preparation assistance. While an expensive tutor is not necessary, there are several effective study programs and tools that can help you and your child master the material. A good program may include test aides, audio-visual tools, and online access.

Simple steps can lead to big gains. Your child should become familiar with the exam, take a practice test, and use tools that can reduce identified areas of weakness. Not only will your student feel more relaxed and prepared, but the preparation will also help them increase their score, and help achieve your goal of private school admission.
