If Content Is King, Why Are Aol And Yahoo Struggling While Google Rocks?
It is no secret that in the search engines content is king
. When people are looking for information, they look towards the reliable content published on top sources on the internet. Of course, in order to find such information they will look to the top search engines for what is presented and promoted in their rankings. In some instances, the search engine itself will produce content in the form of news sites. Considering the size and scope of the top search engines, all of them must be presenting great value in the form of content. Correct?
Actually, there is one king in the realm of content: Google. If you don't believe so, just look at the price of a share of Google stock. Or better yet, just pull up Google on the internet. The great value of it will be revealed. Google rocks and it is leaving Yahoo and AOL in the dust. This may seem like a surprising development when you look at the overall history of search engines. Yahoo and AOL were there first. Google was a latecomer to the game. So, it would stand to reason the originators would remain top of the proverbial pops. Well, such reason is illogical. The company that got into the business first has no birthright claim to being successful. Remember the old search engine Infoseek? It was tops in the late 1990s and now it is a former shell of itself. Today, if you are seeking top content on the internet, Google would be the prime resource to check out.
Don't believe so? Here are scores of reasons why this will always remain the case....
Content found in a single source along the lines of Yahoo or AOL is just not the reliable content people are seeking out. Sure, there is some value to what is found on these sites. Yet, something is also missing as well. This is why Yahoo and AOL are struggling. One reason this is so is because the content sources provided by AOL and Yahoo in-house are just too singular. People want a diversity of opinion and they want it from professionals (content writers) that are authoritative. Such writers would be those that provide excellent information through blogging, tweeting (dubbed microblogging) and social media professionals all can deliver diversity of content that is unique, original, and authoritative. In short, it must be entertaining and informative while also bringing something new to the proverbial table.
Within the search engines, people look towards traditional authoritative sites such as Wikipedia, and online versions of The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. Where does this leave those considered general content writers? It does not leave them with much room to do much of anything! Well, they can continue to ply their wares but the audience for their writing is diminishing rapidly. This makes it impossible for such writers to help deliver the earnings and profits needed to support major corporations such as Yahoo or AOL. This is why Google is in the excellent position that it is in.
