If You Care About Your Hair, You'll Make The Right Choice

My hair has always been important to me

My hair has always been important to me. When I was a child, my mother used to let it grow long, which led people to mistaking me for a little girl. I really, really hated that and actually kicked one of my mother's acquaintances when he so mistook me. Because of that, I have always been aware of the length of my hair, and while it was shoulder-length until I was fifteen, I had it cut very short and have more or less kept it that way for the past several decades. My mother still complains that I keep it too short, but to be honest, I can no longer stand it any longer than the top of my ears.

Growing up, I switched from a barber to a hair salon because I knew that I could get better service. Aside from getting my hair washed and styled, I knew that the staff at the salon knew what was contemporary and in style, and I could trust their opinion as to what looked good and what was ill conceived. The best I could get at the barber was the same haircuts I and everyone else always got, and maybe a shave. I tried that once, and it was the worst shave I ever had. Well, one was worse; I once had to shave with a disposable razor with cold water and no shaving cream, but it was a toss up between that and the one I got at a barber shop one day.

Not many people know this, but to be a stylist, you actually have to take classes and be certified. You can't just decide that you know how to cut hair and open a salon; you actually have to prove that you know what you are doing, and that is something that I always appreciated in the staff that handled my hair. There are even associates degrees in cosmetology with bachelor classes in business management. When you work with a cosmetologist, you are working with a trained professional who has put as much time into their craft as any other college graduate.

My hair is getting a little long, and I think it's time to get it styled. I guess I could go to a barber school and let some trainee give me a five dollar haircut, or I could head over to a professional hair salon and have my hair done right the first time though. I think you know which one I am going to choose.
