The word exam through the passage of time became a word of curse. Most of the teenagers perceive exam as a stress causing element and therefore feel scared to face it. The present situation is that students are required to attend the exams for passing the course of study. So its the duty of the colleges and universities to understand the situation and explain the whole concept of examination and its needs.
Exams are the only way to test a person whether he/she has understood the concept. This is a way to judge a persons knowledge on the subject. There is other school of thought which is determined to abolish exams thoroughly from the education system. The main reason for this ideology is the amount of pressure that exam causes on the students. Students are not ready to put them for a test. A fear on exam has been created right from their early days. There are other set of people who think that exams are an absolute requirement to test and study the progress of students. College lecturers believe in providing homework and assignments to test their ability and students also can seek for homework help when they are not sure about the given task.
Teachers are also responsible for the students attitude towards the exam. Its the duty of the teacher to make the student to understand the concept and to help them in overcoming their fear about the exam. So now the topic is not to discuss about removing exam system from education, but to reform the structure of exam in such a way that it is effective for both the teachers and the students. The ultimate fear of the students is not in facing the exam but the result which they may get after writing the exams.
Rather than forcing the students to face the exam, colleges and universities can try to create an interest in the subject. Above all the grades that the student scores does not directly reflect the amount of knowledge he/she has procured. Hence a balanced approach towards examination is the order of the day and students must try to understand the importance of examinations and act accordingly, instead of thinking it as a stress creator.
