Importance Of Foot Care

Though our feet have to carry our body weight throughout our lives

, it is usually the most neglected part of the body. As it undergoes so much stress and strain, it is important that you give it the care and attention it rightfully deserves.

The right foot care makes your feet not only look much better, but also remain functional without any problems. A general foot care regimen for your feet should include regular washing and drying, especially in between the toes and the base of the nail.

Use appropriate moistures to keep your feet hydrated, and always wear right fitting footwear. Too tight or too loose a shoe can lead to foot problems like bunions, corns and fungal infections.

Most common foot problems

Foot odors generally stem from poor foot hygiene and use of wrong footwear. Wearing plastic shoes or wearing any shoes for long periods of time lead to smelly feet. Feet have many sweat glands that produce fluids which produce smelly bacteria when shoes are worn for a long time.

It is possible to reduce bacterial build-up by washing feet at least twice a day. Wearing loose cotton socks prevent excessive prevention of fluid while a good anti-bacterial spray reduces the effects of bacteria.

Athletes foot is a contagious fungal infection that is treated using an anti-fungal preparation. If you have athletes foot, you have to avoid sharing towels, shoes, socks and flannels as you only spread the fungus this way.

Bunions are bumps found around the main joint of the big toe. It is usually caused by arthritis; but even prolonged use of ill-fitting shoes can also lead to it. High heels with tapered toes are the main contributors to bunions. People suffering from bunions have limited options to wear in foot wear as the bump tends to swell and hurt.

Prolonged working of the feet throughout the day, with consequent friction against footwear leads to the accumulation of hard skin. Any part of the foot may acquire hard skin; but its most common on the heel and main joint of the big toe.

Untreated hard skin leads to cracking and bleeding. Rubbing pumice stones on the hard skin after bathing is the best treatment. It removes hard skin after which you have to apply some moisturizer.
