Importance Of Humidifier For Your Violin Case
Extreme weather conditions affect our lives in various aspects
. Some of you may live in an area where weather conditions remain humid most of time of the year, and other have to face extreme dry conditions throughout the year. Both of these conditions are opposite and have their own affect. When talk about violin or violin case, it is very important to understand your weather conditions particularly. It is because your violin is highly susceptible for both of these conditions. However, the impact of dry air on your violin is worse than the highly humid condition. This condition will cause the extreme dryness of your instrument that leads to the splitting and cracking.
Violinists use various tools to keep their precious violins away from the drastic changes that can be brought by dry air. The use of good quality violin cases is recommended in every condition, no matter if you have an optimum climatic condition for your violin throughout the year as these cases help your violin in many other conditions other than the climatic variations.
When we talk about humidifier for violin, these are basically of two types. The first type is called as external humidifier and the other is internal humidifier. The names are given with respect to the violin not to the violin case. The external humidifier comes in the violin cases and controls the humidity of the violin inside the case. On the other hand, internal humidifiers are inserted into the violin through "f" hole and it controls the humidity of the instrument directly. If we compare both of these humidifiers, both of them have their own pros and cons. You don't have to remove external humidifier before using violin, but this type of humidifier has chances of leakage that might have serious consequences for your valuable violin. On the other hand, there are no leakage chances in case of internal humidifier, but you have to remove it before using it. In short, the use of external humidifier is more popular and feasible than the internal humidifier. Most of leather violin cases and canvas violin cases come with built-in humidifier in it, and sometime you can see them in the viola cases as well.
Let us talk about the use of external humidifier and internal humidifiers. You can attach the holder of your humidifier in the
violin case either by the use of clip, or via Velcro attachment. Read the instructions carefully and soak the sponge accordingly. It is very important especially if you are using internal humidifier, you need to be very much conscious in this case. Soak it; squeeze it to remove any excess moisture and after squeezing and placing the soaked sponge, carefully dry out the external casing of your humidifier. Never allow the water to come in the direct contact with your violin. The attachment of internal humidifier is different. The installation is usually done with the help of threading that is done up to the large rubber disk. The function of this disk is very important as it prevent your humidifier to fall inside your violin.
The importance of the humidifier increases especially when you are moving from humid environment to the dry environment. It is because the changes in the humidity conditions drastically affect your violin. Therefore, you must be cognizant while purchasing violin case for your violin. Sometime even economical violin cases such as violin cases for sale also contain humidifier. However, you must not compromise on the quality of the humidifier at all.
