Important Tips For A Kidney Donor

If you are planning to donate your kidney then there are certain facts that you should be aware of before you decide to go for it.

Giving a life to someone is blissful but at the same time a rare opportunity. Like there are pros and cons attached to every activity that we do, donating a kidney too has its own positive and negative sides. But the joy of giving a life to a needy overshadows the negatives. This article will throw some light on the after effects of kidney transplantation as far as the donor is concerned.

Kidney donor as the name suggests is the person who donates his/her kidney to a patient whose organ stops functioning. Kidney is one of the important organs in the human body. It carries out important functions like absorption of waste from the blood and transferring it to the uterus to be thrown out of the body in the form of urine and so on. When the kidney stops rendering this important function then the person has to remove the damaged organ and replace it with a functioning kidney. This can be done by the process of kidney transplantation.

Before the transplantation is done both the parties involved in the process gave to go through a number of tests in order to check the compatibility. When the tests results positive the transplantation is done. One has to bear in mind that even after the surgery proper care should be taken by both the parties. The recipient will be required to take life long medication so that the body continues to work with the new organ.

As far the donor is concerned there are certain points to remember.

The donor can continue to lead a normal life even with one kidney. It takes a few days to recover from the surgery but once the donor recovers s/he can drive, run, walk, play sports and lead a normal life. The period of recovery differs from person to person. Also researches have indicated that kidney donation does not affect the persons ability to bear children. The occupation of the donor has nothing to do with the ability of the person to donate the kidney, but once the organ is donated the person can resume work only after 2-3 weeks of rest. If you are in the kind of occupation that is physically demanding then the resting period can extent. In some cases you may experience a slight pain and swelling in the area where the surgery is carried out then you will be required to wear loose clothing so that the swell can heal quickly.

It is advised to get a thorough research done before you decide upon it.
