Improve Your Health With Voc Removal
Volatile organic compounds, also know as VOCs
, refer to the compounds that affect our air quality. VOCs are a major (if not the single most contributing factor) to the formation of smog. Some VOCs are toxic and create chronic health problems, which makes VOC removal an absolute necessity for indoor spaces.
In North America, VOC levels are often greater indoors than out. This is a startling statistic when you consider that the majority of VOCs comes from outdoor vegetation. When man made materials and chemicals in an indoor space cause the VOC levels to surpass that of a vegetated area that is also affected by synthetic VOCs, once can see the absolute necessity for proper VOC removal.
The most obvious locations where VOC removal is a priority for good air quality are the locations that manufacture or use in abundance: paints, gasoline, chlorofluorocarbons, tetrachloroethene, cleaning products, refrigerants and solvents. However, even standard office buildings and homes are affected by VOCs. The materials used to create, paint, seal and protect our dwelling spaces leach VOCs such as formaldehyde. While not as prevelant as the VOCs you would find emitted from an industry building such as a drycleaners, VOC removal is equally important in these slow release situations; exposure over a long period of time will affect your health.
VOC removal is a process where VOCs are removed from the air by filtration. Bear in mind that you cannot see VOCs. These are extreamly tiny particles not visible to the naked eye. In fact, molecular filtration (litterally translated as the filtration of molecules) is the method used to eradicate these harmful compounds.
VOC removal by molecular filtration can be done in several different ways. Two popular methods are activated carbon and chemisorption. Activated carbon filters (also known as bonded particulate structure or BPS panels) are very effective at absorbing gaseous VOCs while chemisorption is used to physically change the harmful VOCs to benign compounds such as water vapour.
VOC removal is a necessity for optimal indoor air quality. If you find yourself sluggish, foggy, stuffy or catching frequent colds, arrange to have your filtration system looked at. It could be an underperformance issue due to a filter that needs changing or your system could be inadequate for the size and function of the space. Have your system assessed by a professional to determine the best possible solution for your needs. Knowing that your VOC filtration systems are sufficient and functioning
will make you, literally, breathe easier.
