Improving Your Profile on Facebook

When you are in some kind of marketing and are using Facebook as a tool to increase your exposure

, there are a few things you will want to do to have a better look. You will look more professional and have more connections with the quality people you will want to deal with.

Your Facebook profile should be filled out and be able to be read through in about a minute. The about me should be brief. If it is too long, shorten it up a bit. Facebook users won't take the time to read through your whole profile if it is too long. Use some interesting things and try to make it about 5 sentences long.

Remember though, people do want to know some things about you. Make sure you fill out your favorite things like your hobbies, interests, movies and music. You want to let everybody know that you are real and likable. You might even have a few common interests to help you build on.

Consider not filling out the political and religious views. Everybody has views on these subjects but remember that you are trying to conduct a business. Not that you should be ashamed about what you believe in but you wouldn't want these views to keep people from doing business with you or worse yet, start having controversy over these views. It is up to you. This is just an opinion.

You should have a clear, easy to see Photo on your Facebook profile. I would recommend it be of yourself. I see some people that do not even have a photo, trying to conduct business without a Facebook photo. I know some people are new and maybe they don't have a digital camera but these folks probably are not trying to make contacts for any type of business. Would you feel comfortable doing business with somebody that you could not see? You should not put up a picture of your beloved bird or rabbit either. You can have these photo's in your profile, It is even encouraged but not as your profile photo. I would not use some type of company logo either. Usually people will use their company logo. This is not recommended. I have also seen quite a few "fake" pictures of pretty faces to get attention. It is sometimes very noticeable when people post the pictures by looking at their profile. If you are marketing on Facebook, it is about making connections with other people. It is easier to connect with someone you can see.

You shouldn't have so many websites listed on your Facbook profile. I have seen many people with 5 or 6 different websites listed. This gives the image that you aren't focused on any one thing and prospects aren't sure what you are serious about. You should find a way to keep it to no more than 2 websites listed on your Facebook profile. If you are marketing more than one company, set them up on a website or a blog and direct them to that area. You don't want to be a pocket watch salesman...

You should put some alternate contact information in your Facebook profile. Some people can use the Facebook email but if someone is serious about wanting to work with you, wouldn't you want to know right away?
