The Milk in Bible versus Quran

The Milk in Bible versus Quran

In respect to goats' milk, the Bible says: And there will be goats' milk enough for your food, for the food of your household, and maintenance for your maidens.

This means that, the milk, even the goats' milk is an enough food.

However, the Bible denies that and says: for even owing to be teachers, because of the time, again ye have need that one teach you what [are] the elements of the beginning of the oracles of God, and ye have become having need of milk, and not of strong food, for everyone who is partaking of milk [is] unskilled in the word of righteousness -- for he is an infant.

In addition, talking about Judah, the Bible says: Binding his foal unto the vine, and his ass's colt unto the choice vine; He hath washed his garments in wine, and his vesture in the blood of grapes: His eyes shall be red with wine, and his teeth white with milk.

The Reading of these Biblical facts about the milk may arouse some questions like:

Can we use the wine to wash our clothes?

Is the milk a teeth whitening agent?

Is the milk an enough food or a weak food?

Is the milk used only by infant?

On the other hand, Verse 16:66 of the Quran was ahead of modern research in biology, chemistry and in the physiology of digestion. The verse talks about the mechanism of milk formation.

The verse says: And lo! In the cattle there is a lesson for you. We give you to drink of that which is in their bellies, from betwixt the refuse and the blood), Allah (made the mammary gland to) extract pure milk that is palatable to the drinkers.

We often see goats, sheep and cows eat grass, and yet it rarely occurs to any of us to establish a link between this process and the milk and the dairy products we consume. God lets them feed on this grass, its ultimate transformation to be milk, one of the basic nutriments.

It was William Harvey who discovered the circulation of blood more than a millennium after the revelation of the Quran.

At the time of the Prophet Muhammad, the fact that the blood carried the nutriments absorbed from digested food into its constituents to mammary glands for production of milk was not known. The new material transformed from pasture into assimilated food and blood becomes a nutritious food.

In the Quran, Allah not only draws attention to truths unknown at the time, but also displays facts to derive lessons from. The blood collects and transports the substances formed by digested food to organs; among others, to mammary glands. This process is initiated by blood coming into contact with the contents of intestines, on their walls. Before continuing its journey, carried by blood, part of the digested food is absorbed by the intestines. This information is the result of modern research in biology, chemistry and in the physiology of digestion; and the Quran was ahead of such modern research. So, when we consume milk, it is wise to remember and thank our Creator.

The Bible:

Genesis 49:11-12 (American Standard Version)

11 (Judah) Binding his foal unto the vine, and his ass's colt unto the choice vine; He hath washed his garments in wine, and his vesture in the blood of grapes:

12 His eyes shall be red with wine, and his teeth white with milk.

Proverbs 27:27 (American Standard Version)

27 And there will be goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and maintenance for thy maidens.

Hebrews 5:12-13 (Young's Literal Translation)

12for even owing to be teachers, because of the time, again ye have need that one teach you what [are] the elements of the beginning of the oracles of God, and ye have become having need of milk, and not of strong food,

13for every one who is partaking of milk [is] unskilled in the word of righteousness -- for he is an infant,

Verse 16:66 (Qarib Translation)

Indeed, in the cattle there is a lesson for you. We give you to drink of that which is in their bellies, between the filth (bowels) and blood, pure milk, which is sweet to those who drink.

In other translation, the verse says:

And surely in the livestock there is a lesson for you, We give you to drink of that which is in their bellies from the midst of digested food and blood, pure milk palatable for the drinkers.
