Incentives For Employing 'green' Solutions
Home improvement solutions available in the market augment the overall appeal of your living space
. Such solutions not only beautify the house but also heighten the efficiency and safety quotient of the house. Weatherization and insulation make for such utility- saving home improvement solutions.
Weatherization is the technique of sealing any source of air flow inside the house. This is achieved by sealing gaps that were left during the installation of
weathervane, chimney or door. All the openings are completely blocked in order to make a barrier between the house and the outside environment.
Weatherization is done to make the house resistant to the various weather elements like heat, cold and rain among others. Therefore, it protects the structure from any damage that can be caused by exposure to such harsh conditions, thereby resulting in lower maintenance expenses.
Moreover, since all the sources of heat exchange are sealed, weatherization helps in the minimal use of the heating and the cooling devices. As a result, the energy consumption and the the utility bills are significantly reduced.
Recognizing the significant benefits of the technique, the US government in 1976 devised a policy under the name
Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) . This program aims at expanding the pool of homeowners who opted for weatherization. It was basically designed to assist low-income group to reduce their energy bills.
Going by the statistics, a weatherized home results in savings of up to 32% of the utility bills. Furthermore, less energy consumption obviously leads to a decline in the rate of natural resuorce consumption. Therefore, WAP has more advantages than one. It helps in healing the environment and reduces energy bills of low-income families. Not only this, the saved money helps them augment their living standard and the economy of the country on the whole.
Apart from weatherization, insulation is also a widely employed home improvement solution. Only a weatherized house can be properly insulated. There is a wide variety of insulation material on offer. The choice of insulation should depend on the local climate, architecture of the house and the degree of insulation required.
Foam insulation is one of the many insulation types on offer today. It is available in two variants viz. rigid foam and spray foam insulation. Sheets of rigid foam can be cut to obtain the required size. It is generally used in cases where water-proofing properties are required. It is a durable material and prevents organic growth as well.
Spray foam insulation is an ideal solution for retrofitting purposes. This material can easily be sprayed into holes and crevices. It expands and sets in to give an air-tight sealing. Foam insulation provides an effective barrier from heat, moisture and fire and is perfect for different housing structures.
