Increase Your Cabinets Lifespan With Proper Maintenance

Many people regard cabinets as being some of the most important pieces of furniture in a house

, since theyre the place where all the foods, plates, and sometimes even precious and fragile objects are stored. Not only do they give you the storage space necessary to keep a neat room, but most people actually rework their cabinets and use them as a decorative piece, more than anything else. Now seeing that cabinets have become very precious and valued for most people, it goes without saying that in order for your cabinets to last as long as they possibly can, you need to take care of them diligently and maintain them in their best shape.

The first step to take with your cabinets would be to wipe the dust off them on a very regular basis. What most people dont realize is that dust is one of furnitures greatest enemies, and performing this simple task will eliminate this threat. Not only that, but dusting your cabinetry regularly will provide it with a very smooth appearance. If youre the owner of metal cabinetry, then instead of dusting them you should polish them on a regular basis, and make sure to keep them away from water, because as you know, water can inflict rust on metal (especially iron) reducing your cabinet to nothing but a metal carcass.

Every couple of months you should perform an inspection of all the cabinet hardware, such as the knobs and the hinges. If you want to keep your cabinet in good condition, then youll need to replace the hardware in your cabinets every five years or so.

If youre the owner of some less resilient plastic cabinetry, you should lower your expectations towards their lifespan; theyre not made to last more than around eight years. If you want them to last as long as possible, then clean them very regularly and keep them clear of heavy duty loads.
