Increasing The Mileage Of Your Gas
With the current economy it has become extremely important to reduce fuel costs and the amount of emissions released from running cars
. New cars can be costly for the average citizen, but there are many different ways to conserve fuel without purchasing a new vehicle.
Gas mileage increases with cars that run without any problems. Keeping up with monthly and yearly maintenance work with your car will lower gas use and keep your engine running smoothly. In order to lower fuel consumption, owners must change oil, air filters, and any other fluids under the hood of their car.
Check your tires and make sure that they are inflated properly in order to get the most out of your fuel. Without going into the science behind it, make sure the tires are inflated to the maximum pressure.
With every gas-powered vehicle, anytime the engine is on, gas is being used. Switch the car off whenever you feel like you will be waiting a while for something to reduce fuel consumption. Gas consumption will not be greatly effected for cars that idle for a minute or less. Starting the car up takes the same amount of fuel as idling for one minute, so only switch off if it's going to be a longer wait.
Try to limit trips by taking care of any business all in the same outing to reduce the times an engine is turned on and off. Combining trips creates a warm start for your car allowing it to utilize fuel more efficiently.
Any extra weight in or on the car will adversely affect fuel efficiency. Cars that carry a lot of weight including, hitched trailers, carriers, bike racks or any excess material in the trunk will have a sudden increase in fuel consumption.
Oddly enough, cleaner cars save more gas. Cars that are completely clean on the outside save more fuel according to research in aerodynamics and drag.
Gas consumption is also dependent on the way you drive. In order to get the most out of your gas tank, it is important to drive without changing the speed limit for as long as you can. Careless driving will cause the gas in your tank to decrease faster.
Look up directions and create a plan for your driving trip every time you leave the house. Find low-traffic routes to keep your car flowing at a consistent speed. Of course getting lost and driving around aimlessly for hours won't save any gas either.
Although the air conditioner does use more fuel, it uses less fuel than driving with the windows down. If the car is hot, turn the air conditioner on for a few minutes to maintain a tolerable temperature.
For optimum fuel efficiency, walk or ride a bicycle. Take advantage of walking whenever possible, to cut back on parking problems and laziness.
When buying a new car, consider a hybrid or electric car that will not only be economical, but will also take better care of the environment. Buying a smaller car may also help.
