In case anybody forgot, the Indianapolis Colts are still a pretty good football team

. After losing in Week 1 to the Houston Texans on the road, the Colts rebounded in a big week in Week 2, dominating the Giants in every facet of the game and winning 38-14. So dominant were the Colts that the excitement about the Manning Bowl barely materialized and any potential drama was wrapped up before the end of the first half. Though the New Orleans Saints are still the league's best team until they prove otherwise, the Colts can beat anybody in the league when they're on their game.

Ironically enough, the main reason that the Colts were able to have success was because they were able to take the ball out of Peyton Manning's hands more in Week 2. Though Manning threw the ball all over the field in Week 1, the Colts found a much better balance against the Giants and were able to completely control the ball. Joseph Addai and Donald Brown combined for 161 yards rushing and another 40 yards on short dump-offs, helping the Colts possess the ball for 10 more minutes than the Giants.

As we saw throughout the game, when the Colts are able to get consistent chunks of yardage in the running game, they are as tough as anyone in the league to stop. It's bad enough trying to stop Peyton when you know he's throwing the ball; it's nearly impossible when you're guessing. With the balance, Peyton was able to stay comfortably in the pocket and pick apart the Giants' secondary. In the game, Peyton was hit just three times all game and sacked just once, which is a recipe for disaster for opposing defenses.

Overall in the first two games, the Colts' passing attack also looks as good as ever, which is a great way to help sell Indianapolis Colts tickets. Peyton has a QB rating of 121 through two games, throwing for six touchdowns, no picks and 344 yards per game. Peyton is even one of three quarterbacks who has completed at least 70% of his passes in the first two games, with Brees and Garrard being the other two. Considering that Peyton is also averaging more than 40 attempts after week two, you could argue that Peyton has never gotten off to a start quite this good. Even the year he threw for 49 touchdowns, he didn't come out of the gate throwing the ball this well.

But it wasn't just the Colts' offense that looked dominant in the win. Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney set the tone on the defensive edges, consistently collapsing the pocket and collecting two sacks each. While the Colts' offensive line was able to keep Peyton upright, his brother Eli had difficulty delivering the ball down the field because of the intense pressure he was facing from the Colts' defensive front.

In Week 3, the Colts will look to keep up their defensive pressure as they travel to Denver, a team coming off an impressive win against the Seahawks in Week 2. With the Colts' offense clicking on all cylinders and their defense starting to make it very difficult on opposing defenses, their win against the Giants could just be the victory that gets them rolling in the right direction.

Sitting with a 1-1 record, the Colts also find themselves in an unusual position behind the 2-0 Houston Texans. Many were talking about the Texans as a potential playoff team in 2010 and a great start has the buzz surrounding their team seem warranted. I still expect the Colts to rattle off a couple long winning streaks, but it seems that the AFC South could have a couple of powerhouses that could both easily challenge for the AFC's slot in the Super Bowl. If Week 2 was any indicator, however, the Colts are still the team to beat in the division, if not the entire conference.
