Sunlight enters the room only when it is bright red at the sunset. So the color should be influenced by this aspect.

Rooms oriented towards south or east are easier to decorate. No matter the colors used, the permanent presence of sunlight during daytime, makes them bright and optimistic. In such rooms decorators may even decide to have walls painted in two different colors. For rooms facing south a cold color will create a clean and fresh atmosphere, while in a room with windows towards north the same color will appear grayish. The same thing happens when a sunny room is painted in a strong color; sunlight will make it bright, while if it were in a room facing north it would have been dark and depressing.

Feng Shui is an oriental set of principle which are related to the way the energies in a room can be influenced by the use of color, sound, smell and water. Cardinal points correspond to different areas of our lives. For example north is the point for career, will and power. You can influence these aspects by placing water-related objects, like a fish bowl or a vase with flowers, in the northern part of the room.

Feng Shui also states that the flow of energy in a room depends on the general smell of the room. Paint producers became more and more concerned with solving this issue. There are high quality paints which have little or no paint smell.
