Ink cartridge firm gets involved in recycling project

There is an increasing awareness among individuals and companies these days about

the importance of recycling ink cartridges and other such products.

With such concerns in mind, printer ink manufacturer HP has teamed up with Dubai Municipality as part of a major environmental initiative, AME Info reports.

HP Middle East has come to a deal with policymakers over moves to reduce technology waste in the emirate and under the terms of the agreement, toner cartridges will be recycled.

Responding to the move, Mohammed Abdul Karim Julfar, assistant director general of Dubai Municipality for Corporate Support Services Sector, said: "Dubai Municipality has always been in the forefront in any of the attempts that helps save the environment by reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfills."

He added that Dubai Municipality, which gets through a sizable number of ink cartridges at its headquarters and branch offices, is the first government department in the emirate to cooperate with HP Middle East in such a way.

Dubbed 'What goes around comes around', the campaign is being organised as part of the HP Planet Partners Programme.

As a result of the deal, the department will be supplied with a free, state-of-the-art return and recycling service for original HP toner cartridges.

The plastic gathered as a result will be used towards the production of new printer ink cartridges and other products as well.

In addition to its recycling, HP also provides a range of other measures to help reduce its carbon footprint.

For example, all its PCs and monitors are shipped with energy savings settings enabled.

According to the firm, a single computer with such settings on saves enough energy to power a 75W light bulb continuously for over a year. It also notes that energy saving can result in cost reductions for those who engage in it.
