Insomnia And Its Causes

Insomnia in its most basic form is the absence of sleep. When people find it impossible to get the rest and relaxation they need, the resulting condition is called insomnia. What is insomnia is also categorized by its persistent nature. A single sleepless night likely won't help a person fully understand what is insomnia, but three or four in a row might.
Insomnia causes more than just a loss of sleep. The lack of rest brings a host of other problems both physical and mental to your life and is not something that can go unaddressed for long. However, many people pursue treatments that are more of a shot in the dark rather than tailored for the specific cause itself.
If you have insomnia, it would be obvious by the drowsiness or restlessness that you will feel upon waking up in the morning. You should have been feeling refreshed and relaxed feeling.
Causes:
Lifestyle
- Exposure to stimulants - drinking caffeinated beverages a few minutes before bedtime may trigger a disruptive sleep throughout the night. Smoking can also cause difficulties when going to bed. Common and over-the-counter drugs for asthma, colds and weight loss are noted for containing stimulants.
- Consumption of alcoholic beverages - while alcohol as a nightcap may cause you to feel drowsy and help you to fall asleep, once its effect wears off, you might just have a disturbing and frequently visited sleep.
Stress can be caused from many different things. Some things that cause stress for one person may not cause it for another person. Regardless, it is still one of the leading insomnia causes. Some things that cause stress include family issues, health, and school or money issues. If your mind is too busy, then you will find it difficult to sleep because you are unable to relax.
Here are some of the chronic insomnia causes that are physical:
* Pain caused by arthritis
* Asthma
* Kidney disease
* Sleep apnea
* Heart failure
* Narcolepsy
* A Hyper Thyroid
* Restless legs syndrome
* Parkinson's disease
Further unexpected insomnia causes can include pain such as neck or back pain. The reason for this is that when you are seated on a couch or chair the body is positioned quite differently to when you are lying in bed. You may not find it noticeable that the way you have been sitting has caused some problem until you get into bed and your body stretches out.
Often the elements of your bedroom's environment are common insomnia causes. You might not think that light coming in from a window or noise is keeping you up at night; often the body doesn't consciously acknowledge these things. But if you notice that you wake up when you hear a siren or noise from other apartments or sunlight, then these may be your insomnia causes. Good weather stripping around your windows will block out sound.
Sometimes unexpected insomnia causes are the ones that are easiest to fix, and many who do this wonder why they waited so long! If you give it some thought you may even be able to pinpoint your own personal insomnia causes.About the Author:
