Installing A Door Frame In 3 Steps

, this guide will be will help you to do so in a quick and easy way. - in three easy steps. But, first things first, you're going to need to know what type of tools you are going to need. Here's a list that will make sure the job gets done right:

* Pry Bar

* Putty Knife

* Flat Head Screw Driver


* Phillips Screw Driver

* Level

* Shims

* Nails

If your door installation project job also includes cutting and installing 2x4 treated lumber boards, you're going to need these additional tools:

* Table Saw

* Circular Cutting Saw

* Carpenter's square tool

* Ruler with an Extension

* Power Drill

* Marking Tool

* Hammer

* A Bag(s) Treated Lumber Screws

1. REMOVING THE OLD DOOR FRAME

Let's start by removing the door. Take a screw driver and pop the pin that holds the two hinges connecting the door to the frame. Remember, you don't have to remove or unscrew the door hinges. And, of course, you want to be careful not to damage or drop the door when handling it.

2. REMOVING THE OLD DOOR FRAME

Now, it's time to remove the existing door frame. To remove the existing door frame, use the pry bar (or putty knife) to pry off and take apart the old door frame. Be very careful not to damage the existing door - also, you don't want to damage the wall. So, here's a trick. Use the scrap wood and wedge it in between the door and the wall while you are removing the door frame.

After you have removed the old door frame, take a quick look at the work surface and remove all the left over nails. Make sure the inner frame work surface it's a smooth surface.

3. REPLACING THE OLD DOOR FRAME

Take your new door frame and set it in opening. Use a level to make sure the door frame is set properly. Use your shims and nails to make sure your frame is square and solid.

Now, take your nails and re-install the door trim. When you're all done, re-install the door. Align the hinges, drop in the pins and you have completed your door frame installation project.

IF YOU HAVE TO CUT AND INSTALL A NEW DOOR FRAME

While the door frame is removed, measure the inside of the doorway with your extension ruler and mark the center of the doorway. This will be your benchmark point.

Grab your treated 2X4 door frame pieces and use your circular cutting saw to cut the wood to the specific measured length. Then, take your table saw and make your rip cuts when necessary. A rip cut is when you make a cut that is parallel to the wood grain.

Use your power drill to pre-drill holes into your new wood frame. Then, screw your new wood frame into the inner part of the frame and there you have it - a brand new door frame.
