Instructions For Outdoor Carpet Installation

Nowadays outdoor carpets come in all shapes and sizes

, but don't let that fool you into thinking that there are also tons of different and difficult ways to install the flooring. The basic technique is easy to learn, and if you follow this guide you will soon be installing outdoor carpeting like a pro!

There are several tools that you need to get for the installation, such as a utility knife, scissors and a straight edge. You also need the right types of adhesive and solvents to clean up. The shop where you bought the outdoor carpet, whether online or brick and mortar, can supply you with all these materials.

Don't forget that you need the right type of outdoor carpet for the job. Don't save on waterproofing if the area you are installing the carpeting in is not covered, and get UV-resistant materials if sunlight and color fading could be an issue. The glue should be specific and high-quality or all your effort will be naught in a short time.

If applicable, start by dividing up any complex areas into rectangular chunks. You will be laying out the carpet one rectangle at a time. Clean out the area of installation with care, and then lay down a grid of double adhesive tape, without taking off the masking strips.

If not already pre-sized, cut a piece of the outdoor carpet to size, leaving some extra carpet on the edges. Put it onto the area to be covered and trim it, still leaving a bit of extra border.

Now lay down the outdoor carpet and ply one half of it on top of the other. Prepare the glue strips and add the liquid adhesive. Make sure to follow the glue's instructions carefully, as setting times, and thicknesses vary between manufacturers.

Time to fix the outdoor carpet to the floor. Take extra care to lay down the carpet smoothly, so that you do not create any wrinkles and furrows on the material. Make sure that the fitting with regards to walls and other fixes obstacles is correct.

Now do the same thing on the other side, removing tape covers, applying glue and rolling down the other outdoor carpet smoothly and steadily. One you are done with the whole area, if you have a carpet roller this is the time to use it to smooth out the outdoor carpet even further.

Now finish the trimming of the outdoor carpet edges, always cutting straight lines and at right angles to the main carpet surface. Once the sizing is correct, remove any excess glue with solvent and clean the edges.

Now repeat the whole procedure in the next area, and seam together the join between two pieces of outdoor carpet, or lay down a metal binder. Keep on going for the whole house, and you will have installed outdoor carpet like a pro!
