One of the most rewarding experiences for any devout Christian is taking part in a mission trip. The purpose of such a trip is to spread the word of Jesus Christ and the Christian faith. Missionaries go beyond their borders to other countries, usually impoverished locations, and build churches, schools, and provide people with Bibles and other reading materials. More often than not, missionaries accomplish their goals of converting people to Christianity, saving the lives of those who need the spirit of Christ in their hearts, and improving the overall quality of life for the people in the town they visited.

Many Christian missionaries travel to different countries all over the globe. They visit places such as India to teach the women about empowerment and self-confidence. They travel to the Dominican Republic to help the children by building a school, which subsequently helps their economy because it opens up job opportunities for teaches and support staff. Some churches send groups of their members to places like Haiti, where a natural disaster almost wiped out the entire country's population, in order to help them rebuild their community by constructing homes and providing meals. Through their acts of community service, these do-gooders share their faith and educate people in the Christian religion.

If you have the opportunity to go on a mission trip, it is important to be cautious and prepared for anything that could happen. Here are some travel safety tips you should follow before and during your mission trip:

Get the necessary vaccinations. Depending on which country you are visiting, there are certain vaccinations that are required to obtain. These vaccinations have to be done well in advance of the trip, as some need to be done months apart from one another. Find out from a church official which vaccinations are mandatory to have in order to go on the mission trip. These vaccinations prevent you from being easily susceptible to illnesses, especially if you will be working in a health clinic or with sick people in their homes. If you do not get these vaccinations in a timely manner, this oversight could prevent you from going on the trip.

If you are a church official or someone leading the mission trip, consider purchasing international group insurance if there are five or more church members who will be participating in the trip. Depending on each individual's healthcare coverage, their insurance policies might not cover them while they are abroad. International group insurance will cover all of the missionaries anywhere but their home country. None of the missionaries covered in the insurance policy can be citizens of the country you will be visiting.

Do not go anywhere by yourself. In a foreign country where it is obvious that you are not a local citizen, you are an easy target for people who are up to mischievous behavior. People who pickpocket in crowded streets observe their surroundings and carefully choose the person they think would be the easiest to steal from, and this person is usually a foreigner. Walk with your group and do not stray. If you carry a purse, make sure it is securely closed. Keep your wallet in a place that is not easily visible or easily accessible. Even though it is difficult to figure out who is suspicious and who is friendly, always take heed to anyone who stops and talks to you on the street.
