Interstate Ford Tips: Getting More Life Out of Your Tires
Without good tires, your Ford won't take you very far
. To prevent blowouts and the costs of frequent tire replacement, you need to keep tabs on your tires. It can be as simple as a quick eyeball inspection each time you get in the driver's seat. Make sure tires look inflated and haven't gone flat due to a nail or other road debris punctures.
Here are some other actions to take to keep your tires safe:
Check Pressure
Most gas stations sell or even offer air for free. Check the pressure on each of the four tires to be sure they are properly inflated for your vehicle model. Look at the sticker on the inside of the driver door frame or in the car's handbook for the correct tire pressure. Checking tire pressure once a week is a good habit to maintain safe tires.
Check Tread
Stick a penny with the President's head facing down in several areas of the tread on your tire. If Lincoln's head is not covered by the tire tread, you'll need to replace your tires. Bald tires are not safe and are illegal in most states. Check with Ohio area Ford dealers for more information about state laws.
Clean Your Wheels
The road grime and brake dust that collects on you tires can melt on to your tires. Clean them with a damp sponge and cold water or use a specially formulated tire cleaner to clean off dirt. It will not only make your tires look better, it will help them last longer.
Regular Rotation
You should schedule to have your tires rotated at every 8,000 miles if not sooner to make sure the wear on each tire is even. Again, this will prevent you from having to buy new tires more often.
