Interstate Ford Wants Drivers to Avoid Being Theft Victims

Dayton's Interstate Ford is issuing warnings to all Ford owners about the rise in auto thefts across the country. Protecting your car mostly involves common sense on the part of the driver. While there is plenty of technology that is meant to keep cars safe, ultimately drivers need to practice good habits to ensure the safety of their vehicle.

Here are some safety tips for Ohio Ford drivers:

Never Leave the Keys in Your Vehicle

While it seems obvious, plenty of drivers give thieves the benefit of the doubt when they just run into the store for a second'. It only takes an experienced theft to hijack a car when the keys are still in the ignition. It is estimated that one in six drivers who have had a car stolen left their keys inside.

Park Smart

When stopping by a mall or other public place, park close to the building in a well-lit area. You might be tempted to park away from the crowds to avoid damage to the vehicle but typically a car thief will not operate in blatant view of the public.

Hide Valuables

Never leave things of value in open view. Cigarettes, money, CD's, and other items of interest to a thief can be tempting enough to get your windows smashed out and your belongings stolen. Leave valuables at home or lock them in the trunk or in the glove compartment.

Roll Up the Windows

Too many times a car theft occurs because of in attention by the driver in a rush. Windows are left open, doors are left unlocked, giving easy access to the vehicle. Always double-check that you have your keys and that your Ford is locked up tight before leaving it in a public place.

Turn Over the Vehicle

In the event anyone ever approaches you getting into your car, it is best for you to turn over the keys and get out of the way. Saving your vehicle is not more important than saving your life. A vehicle can be replaced but your life can not.
