Invicta Subaqua, And The Current Evolution Of Watchmaking

While the process of watchmaking has not changed for centuries

, the cultures view of watches have. Sure, you can still get a new Invicta Womens Watch that is identical to the one your grandmother wore seventy years ago, but would you really want to? There was once a time when anybody and everybody carried around a pocket watch. Yet they are rarely seen in today's society.

Or are they? Stuhrling watches and Akribos watches made for the wrist are being seen less frequently because individuals no longer rely solely on their watches for telling time. Everybody these days seems to own a cell-phone, and these portable devices always tell time. The cell-phone has unintentionally become modern societies pocket watch, without the style and class that comes with a luxury designer watch like an Invicta Subaqua.

Watch designers and companies have realized this. They acknowledge that for many, the convenience of having one device that performs many actions (including telling time) is more important to individuals than the class and luxury provided by a designer watch.

Perhaps that is why designer watch companies have started releasing smart-phone applications.

That's correct. If you want a luxury designer watch on your iPhone, well "there's an app for that."

Bell & Ross became the original luxury watch company that built and offered a smart-phone "luxury watch" application that not only tells time, but requires shaking to "wind" the timepiece. Bell & Ross now offers a large variety of different designs for download.

Since then, a plethora of other luxury watch companies have joined in on designing their own luxury watch apps. Breitling offers an application that tells time, while giving users an intricate look into one of their products, the Chronomat BO1.

Jaeger-LeCoultre built an app that not only tells time, but shows users how Jaeger watches are assembled and created, even offering handy repair and cleaning tips. It also includes a half-dozen "courses" on watchmaking right from your phone.

It's an interesting development, since most legendary watch designers and manufacturers rarely, if ever, search for new technological advances, preferring to rely on traditional techniques and craftmanship's used for decades.

However, as convenient as a cell-phone is for time-keeping, in comparison to a wristwatch, the cell-phone timepiece itself may soon get replaced by something even smaller, lighter, and even more convenient.

Timex and Core77 have joined together and built the Timex Nail Watch, the world's smallest watch that attaches to an individual's nail. This "unique, wearable gadget is designed to mold to your fingernail."

Timex has yet to release a bulk of the information on the world's smallest watch, such as when the Timex Nail Watch will be available for purchase, or what price it will be sold for. However, whenever it is, it will clearly be lighter and more convenient than the cell-phone/pocket watches we use today.

Wonder can only wonder what direction watches will go in next.
