Involved In A Car Accident ? Here Is What You Should Do
It is not unusual that Dublin, being one of the busiest counties in the whole of Ireland
, and having the busiest streets, it has a high number of vehicle accidents happening on its roads. If you are from there and are involved in a crash, here are things you should do.
Immediately after the accident, Irish law regulations on such conditions, oblige you to stop and remain where you are. You must not depart the scene where the accident took place, unless told to do so by the Garda.
Even if the accident you have been involved in is not a bad crash, do not go without stopping to check or feel out if you have received personal injury or have assessed the damages to your car.
Failure to stop after the car crash and you might be prosecuted for leaving the scene of the accident.
The Garda must be informed about the crash as soon as possible. If there are any injuries, call an ambulance for the injured people.
If you do not have the capacity to call up the establishment and the nearest hospital for ambulance, ask for somebody to do these things.
If you are the one injured, don't attempt to move yourself and cause more damage. Medical personnel will be the only people to move you.
If it is possible, let the approaching traffic know to be careful in moving forward near the crash exact spot. You can turn on hazard lights and raise your vehicle's booth to let them know about the accident.
Be sure to exchange insurance details with the other driver/drivers involved in the car accident. Do not forget taking down his/her name, address, home or work phone numbers, the car's license plate number, the driver's license number, their insurance broker, policy numbers and insurance agent's name and phone number.
Hopefully there were witnesses, and if so get some information about the people who have seen the car accident that will help you to identify them later on. Try presenting yourself, if you can, for them to identify you as someone involved or injured in the car accident they have witnessed.
Ask the Garda who investigated and made report about the auto accident for their business cards or identity number. Take note of the incident number they have indicated in their report and, if possible, get a copy of such report.
Take simple notes about the whole incident - where the motor accident occurred and how it happened, as you remember it. What was the road surface like, prescribed speed limits, was it raining, the road's lighting conditions?
In which direction were you going what were you and the other individual's car doing during the time the car accident happened.
If your case would go to legal action, remember that you may need this information. You may also be given a ruling to share them to the other party involved in the car accident.
Be careful not to admit fault yet, even if you think you have some liability for its happening. Never give statements without consulting with a solicitor specializing in car accidents first. Your confession could be employed against you later as your case progresses.
