Ipecacuanha Homeopathic Remedy
This remedy is most useful in acute situations where there is nausea
, difficult breathing or haemorrhaging. All complaints are accompanied by nausea. Bleeding is frequent: oozing with intermittent gushes of bright red blood. The remedy has a very chilly and usually thirstless picture. There are sporadic patches of exhaustion and prostration.
The mood may be peevish, irritable, impatient and scornful. Hard to please. The cough is dry, teasing, spasmodic and suflbcative, accompanied by nausea and vomiting. It is worse for movement and being outside, better for rest and heat. Coughing is often accompanied by nosebleeds or bleeding from the lungs. A lot of mucus lies in the bronchial tubes and lungs and there is wheezing, rattling and gagging. However, the cough remains active, even violent. The sufferer has to sit up to breathe, needs oxygen. It is indicated in moist asthma. Incessant violent cough with nosebleeds suggests this remedy in whooping cough. It is indicated in bronchitis in old people when the condition is worse for damp or sudden change in weather.
There are occipital (base of skull) headaches accompanied by nausea, neuralgic pains in the eye. All symptoms are accompanied by severe nausea with a clean or slightly coated tongue and a great deal of salivation. It is indicated in persistent violent nausea which is not relieved by vomiting. Feels disgust for all types of food. There is painful diarrhoea: stools yellow/green with nausea and colic, griping. Autumnal diarrhoea caused by eating unripe fruit or when the weather begins to turn cold. There is a strong desire for sweets which can cause the characteristic green slimy diarrhoea. Periods are too early and too frequent, there is bright red dotted blood with faintness. There may be bleeding between periods: bright red, gushing, worse for movement. In pregnancy there will be terrible nausea, probably with excessive salivation.
There may be profuse bleeding during and after labour. Better: Firm pressure, open air, at rest. Worse: Cold weather, excessive heat, damp weather, veal, pork, ices. The characteristics of Ipecac are persistent nausea with vomiting and excess saliva, bright red blood and difficult breathing. It may be indicated in asthma, bronchitis, colitis, conjunctivitis, diarrhoea, hay fever, haemorrhage, headaches, heavy periods, migraine, morning sickness, nosebleeds, toothache, travel sickness, sea sickness, whooping cough. General Physical Symptoms How is the patient in herself? Is she hot, chilly, sweaty, dry, thirsty, thirstless? Is she unusually hungry or off her food or fancying certain foods, disliking others? Is she over-sensitive to pain or not feeling it enough? Is she drooping around the place or mil of frenetic energy? Is she in pain? If so, can she describe the nature of the pains? These general physical symptoms, states or changes are very important because they affect the whole patient. Things which make the whole patient feel better or worse are very useful clues: is she better or worse for heat, cold, damp, warmth, fresh air, stuffy rooms, winter, summer, evening, night, morning, 11 a.m., 4 p.m., ice cream? These physical symptoms, like the psychological symptoms, may have both acute and chronic expressions. In acute disease, which is what you will be treating, look at the changes from the norm; in chronic disease the norm may sometimes be a better guide to the remedy.
