Is Bodybuilding In Your Genes?
We all have certain traits that are passed down to use from our parents
, whether it is a hooked nose or blue eyes but so is our ability to develop our muscles past a certain point. That being said, there are still plenty of positive effects that a well structured workout regime and a balanced diet can have on your physique. Not everyone has the ability to become a champion but you have the ability to get amazing results from your body anyway.
You can predict with some accuracy how well your body will handle the stimulation of your workouts by studying your natural body shape or somatotype. There are three separate groups of somatotypes and they are divided as follows:
Endomorphic body shape
Endomorphs are barrel-chested with shorter arms and legs.
Mesomorphic body shape
With broad shoulders, very little body fat and very strong limbs and torso Mesomorphs make ideal bodybuilders.
Ectomorphic body shape
Ectomorphs are taller than average with substantially less visible muscle or body fat.
The ideal body builder needs to have wide shoulders, narrow hips and strong arms, so obviously this favors the body shape of the mesomorph. Muscle fiber density and neurological efficiency are the two other inherited roles that help to determine you full potential as a body builder. How big your muscles could grow is controlled by your muscle fiber density and how well you can use them is dictated by your neurological efficiency. When working at their peak an individual with both of these genetic traits can employ 50% of their muscle where as an average person can only use 30%. These traits can give the added bonus of boosting an individual's workout and increase the chance for enhanced muscle gain.
It is good that there is no easy way to test for the presence of these two traits within a person so that they can continually encouraged to work harder and increase their size and strength through perseverance. The traits might make a difference if you are trying to become a world champion but even without them you can always strive for improvement in your own level of fitness and in doing so attain your own goals.
