That is, nothing's good value if you don't use it or convenient if it doesn't fit in with your lifestyle or temperament.

So, first, let's continue with the case for online DVD rental.

That the service offers value for money in comparison with buying or renting elsewhere is almost undeniable.

Buying a new DVD could cost ten pounds and you could get unlimited DVDs for a month for the same amount.

In terms of convenience, little can compare with getting discs direct to your home through the letter box - you don't even have to leave the house.

There's also the choice issue. Online dvd rental offers a huge amount of choice.

Most rental companies have a library of 6000 plus DVDs which about covers all of the films that are currently available for sale in the UK.

On the other hand, there is the negative aspect of DVD rental through the post.

Value for money is all very well but with a DVD rental store you were unlikely to have to make a long number of payments over a number of months which were could potentially never be used or rarely used in one month.

In this sense, online DVD rental could lead to very poor value for money.

Even when you consider the cost of blu ray rental - which is very cheap compared to buying blu ray - it's no good if you can't use blu ray in any case.

This is also the case when it comes to convenience.

It's all very well saying you never have to leave the house but if you're often away from your house - travelling, on business or often with friends - then you won't get the benefit of that.
