Is Email Going To Be Dead In A Decade?
Emails are currently the number one tool used for communication
, whether it be for business purposes or just for social purposes and it has been so for the last 10 years or more. But as technology changes we begin to see a shift in trends and the way that things function or work. Lately real time communication has become more and more popular and it could well signal an end to emails as we currently know it.
Sites such as Facebook and Twitter are bringing real time communication into the current day and age, but will social networking sites be the future tool of communication or will something else come and take the thrown? Let's take a look.
I feel that social networking sites are developing at tremendous speeds. I mean look at Facebook as an example, they now have billions and billions of users who are all updating their statuses and sending messages to friends on a daily basis. Is there even a need for the use of emails when people are now logging into their Facebook profile more than they are actually logging into their emails.
Using a social site will also help control the flow of spam emails. But let's look at this from another point of view. Emails are the basic foundation of the internet just as a search engine is. Personally on a private note without Email access I would be unable to communicate with people that I do not know on the level that I currently do. I would also be unable to store emails the way that I currently do.
Dan Grabham from TechRadar magazine told Sky News Online: "Email won't completely die off - it'll probably still be used for some important purposes such as sending crucial files to someone particular.
"But it's clear that for quick, direct communication Twitter and other social systems are easier to use and can garner a far quicker response - not least because inboxes continue to fill up with unstoppable junk."
Personally I feel that emails will be around for years and years as it's the fundamental basics of the internet and the web. People said exactly the same thing around 10 years or so ago and to this current day and age fax is still around. Ok it may not be as popular as it once was, but it is still around and will continue to be around.
