Is Micro Jobs Just For Bucks Or Career?

Last week, a group of online workers (my friends) had strong debate on the topic Are micro jobs only to earn money or to build career?

As this argument builds interestingly, I got involved on it and like to share it to you all. Here it is for you. The four members in this debate are Tom, Anna, Christopher and Myself.

Tom started it by asking a question, I have been working into online jobs for several good years. I can earn a lot through these micro jobs but is it good to create a profile?

Christopher reacted strangely for this query and commented Yes you can create a portfolio mentioning your online working experience. You can provide the sample works and clients see to it while hiring you.

I accepted to Christophers reply. Whereas Anna disagreed and stated that micro jobs are only to earn money.

Christopher: I am freelance writer for 3 years, I wrote many articles where it is published in many places online. Last week my client appreciated for my good work. Is that not strengthening my career?

Anna: Yes but it wont last for long time, once if you have completed the task, its all over.

Tom: yes Anna you are absolutely right.

Myself: Freelancers get feed-backs and clients review the freelancers work. So if they are satisfied with your quality work, you won the battle. Your work wont be waste. You can earn money as well as create a career.

Christopher: Micro jobs are good for start-ups and college students. They can implement what they learn in these online jobs. They can get practical knowledge.

Anna: Actually entrepreneurs are benefited by this and not sellers. Business owners get their works done by freelancers easily. But this doesnt help freelancers in improving career. Does this Tom?

(Anna called Tom to support her conversation, since he is also in same side of the debate).

Christopher: What about experienced freelancers? They get Experience only when they are really involved in the work. It means that they have future in online jobs.

Myself: This experience will really help them during recession period to fetch a job.

Tom: Hmm. I too agree with the final words of Chris.

Final Words about the debate:

We discussed all the pros and cons of Micro jobs and came to a conclusion that Micro jobs are for earning bucks however you can strengthen your career based on your involvement in these kinds of jobs.

The time spent plus quality work makes your portfolio. This is formula behind micro jobs. And if start ups get into micro jobs, they should strongly understand this.
