Is There A Connection Between Heartburn And Gallbladder Problems?

If you go to bed right after eating a heavy meal loaded with spices

, then it's pretty much a safe assumption you're going to have heartburn. About a third of men and women living in the US are experiencing that exact same scenario on a regular basis. Based on some statistics, as many as twenty percent of individuals living in the US deal with heartburn once every seven days and seven percent of them go through it every day.

Pain behind the chest bone together with belching up sour-tasting substances is what known as heartburn. The reason for this is because some of the food we eat together with acid from the stomach backs up into the esophagus, which burns when acid touches it. The reason why acid enters the esophagus is due to a muscle between the esophagus and the stomach becoming weak or loose. Food and stomach acid seep into the esophagus. This is known as GERD or Gastroesophageal reflux disease.

Most people make the assumption that heartburn is the result of overeating or eating something spicy or fatty, but it can happen as a result of a medical condition occurring in the body. A good example of this is if there is a problem with the gallbladder. If there is, then there is a good likelihood that an gastric episode may come about. Heartburn and gallbladder issues can be related, but there are some things that can be done to greatly reduce the chances of having a bout of heartburn.

The gallbladder is an organ that stores bile, necessary for the digestion of fat. Bile is made in the liver. If the gallbladder doesn't function correctly , it can produce the same symptoms like those found in poeple dealing with GERD: heartburn, chest pain, belching, and acid floating up to the throat. Heartburn and gallbladder problems can both be the result of eating food that has a lot of fat in it.

People that have their gallbladder removed for whatever reason also experience frequent heartburn, because their system is not producing enough bile to digest fat. Undigested fat affects the quantity of acid in the stomach and softens the muscle between the stomach and esophagus, allowing acid to back up.

Another issue concerning heartburn and gallbladder problems are the development of gallstones. Gallstones occur when cholesterol and bilirubin mix to create different sizes of stones. People most at risk are women, people older than 55, overweight people and people trying to rapidly lose weight.

Once diagnosed with gallbladder stones, you know to watch for symptoms like fever, jaundice, rapid heartbeat and acute pain in the upper stomach, which can be a sign of inflammation or blocked bile duct. These symptoms should not be taken lightly and require emergency attention.

Interestingly, what triggers both attacks of gallbladder pain and heartburn caused by GERD is greasy food, so change in diet is the easiest first line of defense. Lighter and smaller meals, rich in good cholesterol and fiber are called for and might prevent heartburn, whether it is caused by gallbladder problems or poorly functioning valve between the stomach and esophagus. It's much better to change ones' eating habits rather than relying on medicine since medicine can have terrible side effects. If your heartburn is extreme are is combined with other bodily issues, don't tough it out, get proper medical threat ASAP. Only a doctor, with knowledge in this field, can make the right diagnosis.
