What is Autism? Autism is a developmental disorder that appears in the first three years of life, and affects the brain's normal development of social and communication skills. But the more important question is this: Is there a cure of Autism?
Click Here For My Autism Support Instant Access Now!There are several approaches or treatment methods that are used in order to manage Autism. I say "manage", because Autism cannot be cured. The symptoms any child with Autism is experiencing can only be managed or improved. For instance, a child with Autism who has repetitive behavior such as hand flapping can be taught how to stop such behavior through behavioral therapies. However, the Autism will not go away.
So for the treatment methods, we have behavioral therapy, communication therapy, and other complementary therapies. Behavioral therapy is the foundation for most treatment programs for children with autism. This therapy is based on the theory that behavior that is rewarded will more likely be repeated than behavior that is ignored. As mentioned, children with Autism exhibit repetitive behaviors such as hand flapping, spinning, or rocking. Through behavioral therapy, they are taught to develop acceptable behaviors that will be rewarded and stop those repetitive behaviors that will only be ignored by others.
Communication therapy, on the other hand, aims to correct the speech difficults that Autistic children most often experience. A speech-language pathologist may train the child with voice, speech, and language disorders by performing a comprehensive evaluation of the child's ability to communicate and designing an appropriate treatment program. In addition to behavioral and educational approaches, children with Autism may also be offered art therapy, music therapy, and animal therapy. These complementary therapies allow the child to express his feelings in a nonverbal way, to develop his speech and language skills, and to improve his motor skills.
You see, there could be several and a combination of approaches. But is there a cure for Autism? Sadly, the answer is no.
