Is There Anything More Intriguing Than Gold?

Gold provides a safe haven when country's economic policies and currency valuations are unstable

. A holding of gold is at it's highest value when a currency begins to vacillate significantly. While a devalued currency can positively impact international competitiveness, it increase the cost of imports and makes the net holdings of bank savings by citizens worth less. Acquiring gold is a sure fire way of safe guarding yourself from currency instability.

It is funny to think that if you showed a piece of gold to a person from the Iron Age, they would immediately know what it was and its worth. Anyone nowadays can get access to gold; that is the exciting thing about the internet and how it opens up entire markets that were previously closed to "mom and pop" investors. The generation of new wealth today is largely information based. We have the ability to gather, consume and analyze far more data in a single 24 hour period than all previous generations could assemble in a week.

Gold's unique properties and the fact that it is difficult to find make it a substance of high quality. Cultures around the world used gold in their religions and as a signifier of wealth and prosperity. You can still find roman and greek gold coins in archaeological sites around the world. Today we still see gold as highly desirable, and use it as a form of currency. Gold is still very much a sign of wealth today - you see this often when people build or renovate houses and include things like gold taps or baths in their designs.

All the things we value about gold - it's rarity, softness, resistance to erosion or tarnishing - make it a highly unique precious metal. Precious metals are by their nature less reactive than most elements, and gold is no exception. Gold and silver were discovered very early on in man's history, and both were used as religious adornments, idols and figurines, and of course jewellery. It was the Greeks and Romans who used gold as "money" - they mined gold for rudimentary coins, which were then used extensively throughout the Roman Empire. People "recycled" gold through history, and we're no different today - at any one time today we recycle at least a 3rd of all the gold in the world.

So what do you do when the world gets back on its feet and people want to put their money back into the stock market or the banks again? Say the economic gloom suddenly clears and the news is all bright. Interest rates suddenly rise, and people will want to get back into investments that will make more money. Well of course there are ways to make money when the value of gold goes down. The simplest way to beat the constantly trending markets is to know where to run for cover when the storm gathers and now with the ability to easily buy gold online, you have that safe place open to you that bigger investors and institutions have used for thousands of years.
